Institute of Texan Cultures prepares for Fiesta® 2014
SAN ANTONIO – Fiesta is fast approaching, and the Institute of Texan Cultures is hard at work creating a dynamic and colorful exhibit to commemorate this year’s celebration.
The focus of this year’s Fiesta® exhibit is hats, but individuals and organizations who would like their 2014 Fiesta® medal included on the Fiesta Medal Mania! sash may donate it for the display. The sash will be on view in the Hats Off to Fiesta®! gallery, which opens on March 28. The ITC will continue its partnership with the Fiesta Commission for the annual medal weigh-in on April 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the museum.
Along with the main exhibit and sash display, ITC’s 2014 Fiesta experience also includes Colors of Fiesta, a student created tribute to Fiesta hats by the Academy of Career and Technologies Charter High School’s fashion and design program. Also on display is A Night in Old San Antonio: A History in Photographs, a retrospective photograph collage highlighting the event’s history and contributions to the city over the years.
The Institute of Texan Cultures is located on the UTSA HemisFair Park Campus, 801 E. César E. Chávez Blvd., a short distance from the Alamo and the River Walk. Regular hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults (ages 12-64); $7 for seniors (ages 65+); $6 for children (ages 3-11); free with membership, UTSA or Alamo Colleges identification.
