Texas Folklife Festival celebrates Texas traditions

Visit to access the volunteer system

SAN ANTONIO – Since its inception in 1972, the Texas Folklife Festival has called upon the community to share their culture and heritage with fellow Texans. The festival dates, June 9, 10 and 11, are quickly approaching and the festival office is calling on the volunteers to help staff critical festival positions.

"It’s the volunteers who work the gates, give directions and do a dozen other tasks behind the scenes who make this festival work," said festival director Jo Ann Andera. "They’re the ones who take care of festival guests and participants and manage the small details that make all the difference."

The festival invites companies, church groups, service organizations, school organizations and individuals to join as gate teams, ticket takers, greeters, participant assistants, information way finders and a variety of other positions.

Volunteers receive entry wristband for themselves and a guest for all three days, a parking pass and free shuttle to and from the Festival.

New and returning volunteers are asked to visit and follow the Get Involved link to the festival’s online volunteer system. Orientation sessions are May 23 and May 31, 6 p.m. at the museum. Volunteer packets, including wristbands and parking passes, will be distributed at these sessions.

The Texas Folklife Festival times are Friday, June 9, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, June 10, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, June 11, Noon to 7 p.m. at the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 E. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. VIA Park & Ride service is available from Crossroads. For ticket information, visit or call 210-458-2300.
