Aviation Poster Contest

In 1910, Lt. Benjamin Foulois made the first military flight in San Antonio, Texas. Knowing almost nothing about powered flight, he arrived at Fort Sam Houston with his airplane still in a box and in pieces. His only instructions were in letters from Orville Wright. Ben Foulois had the dream to fly, and he dared to work hard to make it happen.

From that historic beginning, military aviation has been as important to San Antonio as San Antonio has been to military aviation. Today, every Air Force cadet begins their training here at Lackland Air Force Base and continues Lt. Foulois’ dream of flight.

The Institute of Texan Cultures is helping the city of San Antonio celebrate 100 years of military aviation. We invite students to imagine the daring and dream of flight as they create an art poster celebrating aviation history and imagining our aviation future.

All poster entries are due at the Institute of Texan Cultures by Feb. 1, 2010. The art will be evaluated by our panel of judges. Winners will be notified on March 1, 2010.Winning posters will be displayed at Fort Sam Houston and at the Institute of Texan Cultures as part of a city-wide celebration.
