Bring a piece of the museum into your location!  The Tex-Kit program offers hands-on, interactive Texas-themed presentations in the following six content areas:

Archaeology: Layers of Culture

 Archeology

Artifacts such as bison hide, stone tools and gourds help illustrate the life of Texas' first settlers, the Native Americans.

Become an archaeologist for a day as you examine artifacts, learn about the tools of the trade, and participate in a mock dig to discover clues to the past!

Aviation in Texas

What does an airplane have in common with a bird wing? Learn the answer to this question and discover the role Texans played in aviation.

Learn about a day on the dusty trail and get up close and personal with everyday objects that cowboys used! Branding irons, boots, bandanas and beans bring stories of trail rides to life.

Texas Pioneers: Gone to Texas

Pioneer Tex kit

Enjoy a visit from a 19th century schoolmarm or master, who tells the story of Texas schools 125 years ago using slates, McGuffey Readers and a switch!

A washboard, lye soap, and a sad iron were common objects for a Pioneer woman in the 1800s! See these and more with this kit, which examines life on the early Texas frontier.

Tex-Kits are designed as traveling collections of demonstration items that relate to the kit's particular theme. They present an educational experience that adds a tactile dimension to certain study areas of Texas culture and history.

Presented by either a trained volunteer or museum staff member, Tex-Kits provide opportunities to handle the tools and accoutrements of the people who forged the state of Texas.

A presentation lasts one hour (50 minutes when more than one presentation is requested on a consecutive schedule). Due to the interactive, hands-on nature of the program we recommend that audiences are limited to 35 attendees or fewer per presentation. We regret that we can only present Tex-Kits within a 50-mile radius of San Antonio.
