Buffalo Soldier Day

10:00 AM - 04:00 PM

Celebrate African-American History Month with a visit to the Texas Frontier and life in the historic black regiments of the United States Army.

Travel back in time with the Buffalo Soldiers and experience life along the Texas Frontier. The Institute of Texan Cultures, Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Buffalo Soldier Program, and Boerne’s Agricultural Heritage Museum proudly present a day of activity and excitement.
Buffalo Soldiers were the first official African American U.S. military regiments following the Civil War. These brave men not only served in countless American conflicts, including the Spanish-American War, but they also built infrastructure and protected the frontier along the American Southwest.
Visit a frontier fort, learn real techniques Buffalo Soldiers used to survey the West, learn scouting methods, explore artifacts, and learn the regimental duties of the Buffalo Soldiers. Also explore how the Buffalo Soldiers shaped America’s pastime and engage in a 1870s game of baseball, between the Buffalo Soldier regimental baseball club and the Boerne White Sox Vintage Base Ball Club.
