The Rhythm Bones Society has chosen San Antonio for its annual gathering of musicians. As part of their reunion, the group will make a stop at the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures to play some music and "rattle the bones."

Often made from cow rib or a variety of hard woods, the bones produce a distinct, rhythmic click comparable to a castanet or tap shoe. The instruments are often found in bluegrass and folk music, usually accompanying the banjo and mandolin.

The society previously made an appearance at the Texas Folklife Festival in 2011. About 15 musicians from across the nation, including two-time world champion bones player Steve Brown are expected at this year’s reunion.
