Back 40

Your school may be out of session for Spring Break, but here at the ITC, our One Room Schoolhouse will be open all week long!

"Spring Break on the Back 40" provides visitors with a unique opportunity to explore historic structures representing five distinct experiences along the vast Texas frontier. Each day will offer a different perspective of life in Texas during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in exciting activities and demonstrations.

  • Tuesday: Explore the schoolhouse and the adobe house. Daily activities include crafting yarn bluebonnets and "ojo de dios."
  • Wednesday: Explore the schoolhouse and the fort. Daily activities include mock-military enlistment, historical marching drills, and scouting expedition.
