Spring Break on the Back 40 offers guests an opportunity to experience the 1800s Texas Frontier by visiting various structures from the era. Each building includes a tour and hands-on opportunities with artifacts, and take-home crafts associated with different aspects of life on the frontier: Spanish settler, pioneer homesteader, school-aged child, ranch hand and Buffalo Soldier. Each day features a different building and associated activities.
Monday: The barn and wagon, with roping, cowboy dress-up, and decoding cattle brands.
Tuesday: The adobe house, with Mexican-style paper flowers craft.
Wednesday: The fort, with activities including enlistment papers, marching drills and dress-up.
Thursday: Schoolhouse and windmill, with penmanship exercises, schoolyard recess games and a pinwheel take-home craft.
Friday: Log house, with a quilting bee and rag doll craft.
Spring Break on the Back 40 is included with regular admission. Activities are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
