About the Exhibit:

Griff Smith's Texas: A Retrospective through the Lens & Images from Texas Highways

October 1, 2011 - March 25, 2012

Griff Smith has worked for Texas Highways for more than 25 years and has been the photo editor since 2009. According to a March 2011 article in the magazine, his work has sent him "from Alpine to Zephyr." During his career, he has covered a wide spectrum of subjects, from majestic landscapes to unique people who have contributed to the tapestry of Texas culture.
"Griff Smith’s Texas: A Retrospective through the Lens & Images from Texas Highways," curated by Mac Woodward and Casey Roon, will recognize the talent of J. Griffis Smith and the contribution Texas Highways has made to encourage the exploration of Texas. The exhibit will also examine the process from concept to publication of how Smith and Texas Highways magazine have defined and carried out their mission.
The exhibit features 58 images showing the vastness and diversity of Texas.

A Maverick’s Texas

March 12, 2012 – June 17, 2012

Inspired by the work of J. Griffis Smith, photo editor for Texas Highways magazine, thirty high school students from Pasadena Memorial High School in Pasadena, Texas documented the cultural geography of their world with photography and drawings. Exploring personal culture, as well as that of their city, school and surroundings, each student sought to capture images that exemplified various influences on their culture.
