Cosgrove earns Texas Association of Museums Wilder Award

SAN ANTONIO – Graphic designer Jim Cosgrove captured the essence of sentimentality and childhood memories in his poster for the Timeless Texas Toys exhibit at the Institute of Texan Cultures. His artistic rendering of classic toys in a child’s cupboard with wood-carved "Timeless Texas Toys" motifs earned a Wilder Award from the Texas Association of Museums at the organization’s annual meeting in San Antonio, March 30, 2012.
Cosgrove earned a Merit Citation for Marketing Materials, Supplementary Materials, and Posters. The jury included museum professionals, educators and designers from across the state. The award is named for Mitchell A. Wilder (1913-1979), founding director of the Amon Carter Museum of Fort Worth, an advocate for excellence in museum publications.
A full-scale rendering of Cosgrove’s piece was built as an entry marquee to the gallery housing the exhibit at the Institute of Texan Cultures.
The Institute of Texan Cultures is located on the UTSA HemisFair Park Campus, 801 E. César E. Chávez Blvd., a short distance from the Alamo and the River Walk. Regular hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults (ages 12-64); $7 for seniors (ages 65+); $6 for children (ages 3-11); free with membership, UTSA or Alamo Colleges identification.
