About the Exhibit:

Los Tejanos

Encounters between Spanish, Mexican and indigenous peoples created a mestizo – mixed -- population commonly identified as Tejanos. Their contributions to the Texan identity and culture are significant, and can be seen all around.

Los Tejanos is an Institute of Texan Cultures exhibition exploring the Tejano experience. It offers a glimpse of the Tejanos’ compelling stories from the early 18th century to the present day.

The exhibit draws upon major themes in Tejano life - migration, making a living, struggles for inclusion, and cultural traditions. The new exhibit format for the Institute of Texan Cultures incorporates more technology and artifacts, encouraging visitors to search through the exhibit to delve deeper into the Tejano experience of Texas.
