Anne Frank: A Private Photo Album

April 8 — May 11, 2008

Take a photographic journey through the eyes of Otto Frank, Holocaust survivor and father of Anne Frank. This photographic exhibit showcases 71 images Otto took of his family and children before they were forced into hiding during the Nazi tyranny.

The photos reflect a distinct historical time frame, progressing from 1926 to 1941. They reveal a sense of normalcy before the Holocaust. The photos also demonstrate a steady development of Otto’s artistic ability and his experimentation with artistic techniques.

Many family portraits were taken during this era. Otto’s lens captured everyday expressions and emotions that tell the story of a family – like families today.

This photo exhibit provides the opportunity to analyze and interpret the progression of the Frank family, and to make connections from the Franks’ experiences to present-day life.

Anne Frank: A Private Photo Album was developed by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and is offered exclusively in North America by the New York based Anne Frank Center USA, Inc.

The Anne Frank: A Private Photo Album has been sponsored and funded by Hillel at The University of Texas—San Antonio in cooperation with the San Antonio Holocaust Memorial. It has been supported by a grant to Hillel at UTSA from the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies, partially funded from the Freeman Fund of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio. Additional contributions come from the College of Education and Human Development and faculty of The University of Texas—San Antonio, and friends of Hillel at UTSA.

You can help promote this exhibit. Print an exhibit flier and post it in approved locations at work, church, or social gathering places. Thank you!
