Lighting celebrates weekend of achievement in football and women’s volleyball

(Sept. 2, 2014) -- It was a weekend of stunning achievement as UTSA football had a dominating 27-7 road victory against Houston on Friday, and UTSA women’s volleyball scored its first-ever victory against Texas A&M in a five-set match on Saturday.
To celebrate the victories, the monument sign at the John Peace Circle entrance of the Main Campus and the Sombrilla Plaza fountain will be lit in orange lights tonight at 8 p.m. Additionally, for the first time, the Sombrilla Plaza fountain will also be lit in orange.
"Every day, we are making history," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. "We’re so proud of our Roadrunner athletes."
In football, UTSA scored the first 27 points of the game and never looked back in spoiling Houston's TDECU Stadium debut with a dominating 27-7 victory in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
In volleyball, UTSA scored a five-set victory over the Aggies in the final match of this weekend's season-opening Texas A&M Invitational. The impressive victory was named one of ESPN’s Impact Performances of the Week.
‘Orange out’ lighting events celebrate UTSA achievements in academics, research and athletics. The university is exploring orange lighting options at the Downtown Campus for future events. The top house of the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, facing IH-37, will be lit as well.
