LA SALLE LANDS IN TEXAS: WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE?

(San Antonio)—Do you remember playing childhood games like “Where’s Waldo?”  Relive the fun with your children as two life-sized paintings are recreated at the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) in “La Salle Lands in Texas: What’s Wrong With That Picture?”

Artist Jim Rice’s work is featured in this exhibit about René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, who led the first French explorations in what became Texas.  One painting has 33 historical errors.  Find the errors, and check your answers against the "correct" painting.  Exhibit dates are March 4 through July 1.

Rice and special historical “guests” from La Salle’s expedition such as tribunal minister Comte de Pontchartrain and voyage historian Henri Joutel will appear in era costume from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. March 16, at the ITC.  Rice is also the author and illustrator of more than 29 children’s books, which he will be signing.

One of three University of Texas at San Antonio campuses, the ITC is an educational center focusing on Texas history and cultures.  Admission fees are: $5, adults; $2, children (3-12 years); $3, seniors (65 years or older); $3, military personnel with ID; and free, members, UTSA students and employees and children 2 years and under.  For more information, call (210) 458-2330
