Special Event Volunteer

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:
Texas Folklife Festival
June 7-9, 2013
Volunteers directly contribute to the success of festivals and special events at the Institute of Texan Cultures. Whether you're a student needing volunteer hours, a kind-hearted citizen who enjoys volunteering at events or a corporate neighbor who prides yourself on giving back to the community, we have a role for you!
Our volunteer opportunities include a variety of tasks that require outstanding customer service. We also have behind-the-scenes jobs including (but not limited to) freight elevator operators, set up and take down, special museum promotions, to name a few! Benefits include free event admission, free parking, and discounted volunteer t-shirts.
New Volunteers
New volunteers must apply first! Note, you will be asked to set up a password and then select a job/shift time that you prefer. Applying does not confirm a schedule. You will be notified with an official confirmation once your application is approved. Get started! (

Volunteer Opportunities for small groups or teams:
We still have several volunteer openings for the Texas Folklife Festival. Our Gate Teams are ideal positions for small groups who want to work together in a team effort. Gate Teams are made up of 8 people and are responsible for greeting our visitors, taking tickets, checking wristbands, assisting parents with "tag-a-tot" for their children, and stamping visitor’s hands.
Volunteer Benefits:
- Volunteers receive a wristband that is valid for free admission June 7-9, 2013.
- Volunteers receive a parking pass and free shuttle to and from the festival grounds.
- Volunteers receive a discount on t-shirt purchase. (*applies to 42nd annual volunteer t-shirt)
- We also encourage group volunteers to wear company and/or organization t-shirts.
So if this sounds like a great way for you to have fun with your coworkers, family members, or club members while supporting your community, please contact the Texas Folklife Festival Volunteer Office at (210) 458-2216. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older and those under 18 must volunteer with a parent or guardian.
