Texas Contemporary Artists Series: Pepe Serna

The Texas Contemporary Artists Series showcases the talents of some of Texas’ premier artists. Common to all of their work is the bold vision and unbridled exuberance that is the quintessence of Texan culture. The Texas Contemporary Artists Series is curated by Arturo Infante Almeida, curator for the UTSA art collection.

About the Exhibit:

Texas Contemporary Artists Series: Pepe Serna

June 17, 2013 - September 1, 2013

Pepe Serna is known primarily as an actor, playing Latino roles in films such as “Scarface” and “American Me.” The Corpus Christi native began his art career at the encouragement of his wife, Serena, and began producing brightly colored canvases with the thematic scenes and styles of Mexico. From the curator’s statement:
“In his dazzling series, ‘La Mona Risa,’ celebrated artist and actor Pepe Serna re-imagines the iconic smile of Leonardo’s masterpiece using a kaleidoscopic spectrum of color, shape and form.”
