SAN ANTONIO – With summer fast approaching, the Institute of Texan Cultures has begun preparations for the 43rd annual Texas Folklife Festival, which will take place June 7 and 8.
Advance ticketing is available online at, at the Institute of Texan Cultures museum store and at local HEB stores and military bases. Adult tickets (ages 13+) are $10 advance and $13 gate. Children’s tickets (ages 6-12) are $5, advance or gate. Children five and under receive free admission.
The museum encourages the public to use Via Park & Ride services, as there are various downtown functions scheduled for June 7 and 8, and limited parking options near the festival grounds. Park & Ride is available from Crossroads and Randolph locations and is $5 for the round-trip.
The Texas Folklife Festival celebrates the rich and colorful heritage of more than 40 cultural and community groups of the Lone Star State. More than 30 ethnic and cultural food booths, serving more than 150 culinary delights, will be available on the festival grounds. There will be live entertainment on six stages, with a variety of bands and entertainers performing. More than 50 artisan-vendors and will offer up-close opportunities to see craft demonstrators showing off their skills: Basket makers, weavers, bread bakers, wood carvers, blacksmiths and historical re-enactors.
The Institute of Texan Cultures is located on the UTSA HemisFair Park Campus, 801 E. César E. Chávez Blvd., a short distance from the Alamo and the River Walk. The Texas Folklife Festival is 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, June7; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 8. The museum will close three days prior to the festival (June 4-6) to prepare, and one day following for take-down.
