This one-week academy is presented by the UTSA College of Education and Human Development and offers classes, presentations, workshops, and tours to prepare secondary teachers to integrate the Mexican American experience for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in social studies and literature, as well as meet the specific content area for Mexican American Studies as a special topics course. The Academy engages teachers in intellectually-oriented readings, workshops, and discussions to increase content knowledge and pedagogical skills regarding Mexican American Studies. The Academy will include a special tour of the ITC to explore classroom resources inspired by ITC’s newest exhibit Los Tejanos.

A series of two-hour evening programs on a wide range of topics, from critical thinking and inquiry to temporary exhibit highlights to subject integration. Materials and refreshments provided. Separate registration for each session is required. Attending educators are awarded two CPE credits.

The ITC offers a wide array of educational resources for educators to use in the classroom. All of our lesson plans and hands-on activities meet TEKS requirements in social studies, and can be adapted to meet individual classroom needs.More Info
